Akrur Sardar is a historian specializing in the socio-economic and intellectual history of modern South Asia, with a particular focus on Bengal and women’s studies. He holds his Bachelor’s degree from Asutosh College (2011) and a Master’s degree in Modern History from the University of Calcutta (2013). He subsequently completed an M.Phil. at the same institution (2013–2015), during which he was awarded the Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship (RGNF). In 2016, he qualified for the National Eligibility Test (NET).

His doctoral research at Presidency University critically examines the historiographical development of economic history writing in 20th-century Bengal, exploring its intersections with intellectual traditions and nationalist discourses. In 2019, he was appointed as an Assistant Professor of History by the West Bengal College Service Commission and served in a substantive post at Kabi Joydeb Mahavidyalaya, Illambazar, Birbhum.

His broader research interests span social, cultural, economic, and intellectual histories, engaging with themes that traverse South Asian and wider transcultural contexts. His work integrates archival research, historiographical analysis, and interdisciplinary methodologies to contribute to a nuanced understanding of historical processes in colonial and postcolonial South Asia.
